Curriculum Policy

This policy lays out the rationale behind our curriculum for Early Years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. It provides an overview of the content and structure of our curriculum, explaining why these things matter and how they cohere. It provides links to a range of progression maps and schemes of work that set out what we want pupils to know and be able to do at each stage of their education. The information and pages below provide a tour through our curriculum for parents.

At our school we use the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage, which applies to pupils from our 2-Year-Old to Reception classes. Our Early Years Curriculum is also informed by Development Matters. We use the National Curriculum in Key Stages 1 and 2. These documents lay out the range of subjects we must teach and set the standards pupils are expected to reach at the end of each stage of learning. Our School Curriculum incorporates these national documents and goes beyond them. We have adapted and extended the national framework to meet the particular needs of our pupils and families. Our curriculum is designed to work for all in our community.

From our two-year-old provision through to Year 6, our curriculum is coherently planned and sequenced. At each stage, it builds on what children know and can do, towards cumulatively sufficient knowledge and skills for their future learning. Our curriculum is designed to provide no limits or barriers to our children’s achievements, regardless of their backgrounds, circumstances or needs. We have high ambition for our pupils. Our curriculum embodies this.
