Attendance and Punctuality

At Montem our expectation is for every child to attend school every day. We work together with parents in both a supportive and challenging way to achieve high levels of attendance and good punctuality.  Good attendance and punctuality are celebrated regularly.

Good attendance in school is the single most important factor in ensuring that children and young people have the maximum life chances - attendance is strongly linked to educational achievement. A child who misses a day of school per week misses an equivalent of two years of their school life. Figures have shown that 90% of persistent, poor or non-attenders at a primary school age fail to achieve five or more good grades at GCSE and approximately one third achieve no GCSE's at all.

At Montem our policy and procedures are rigorous and robust and set out clear achievement criteria and the responsibilities of all stakeholders. Good attendance is promoted by everyone and is the responsibility of everyone.

We understand that sometimes children are too ill to attend school. In these circumstances parents must call the school office as soon as possible after 8.00am.
